Synopsis
Tales of the Arabian Nights is not a good game. It is too chaotic, long, unbalanced and swingy.

But I do not think of Tales of the Arabian Nights as a game. I think it more of a toolbox in which to create my own fun. Now when I play I fudge the rules to make it more fun, interesting and shorter.

Even with all these changes, Tales of the Arabian Nights is an excellent experience! The storybook is fantastic and everyone I have played it with can’t wait to hear what their next adventure is!

If you want a good laugh, you are not worried about the results and you love ‘choose your own adventure novels as a child, Tales of the Arabian Nights is a game for you!

Synopsis
I love racing (of any kind) and as a result I love racing games!

Rally is not my favourite type of racing and is also rarely adapted to the tabletop.

When I played Rallyman it instantly captured the speed and strategy of Rally style racing. This game differs from other light racing game in that every dice you roll moves you one space. Dice represent gears rather than movement and your ability to maintain the highest overall speed (without wrecking) is the key to success.

Rallyman also has a vibrant online community of solo gamers who complete in a global tour of rally stages to see who can be the best in the world.

This is also what makes Rallyman so good for me, the only racing game I can effectively play solo!

Synopsis
Thunder Alley, a game about Good ole boys and racing their jet fighters in a gymnasium.

Thunder Alley, is based on stock car racing – widely agreed the most boring type of racing (just make left turns all day). This game is amazing though, it has converted countless people by the use of theme and strategy. How did it do it I hear you ask? Simple, Thunder Alley set up a the mechanics by which you simply play the game and the actual strategy of running a stock car team intuitively comes to you.

For instance, cars are drafted, so you hardly ever move your car independently. This means maximising your moves and minimising that of the opponents. Strategically breaking drafting lines and knowing when to make your move. Pit under green at the right time and shoot to the top under yellow or pit under yellow to waste the shortest amount of time!

If you think Stock Car racing is boring, play Thunder Alley, it will make you rethink your prejudices…some of them anyway.

Synopsis
Flip ships is a simple dexterity game which is basically tabletop space invaders.

Players work together to take down the alien menace by flipping their ships onto the enemy ship (cards) to destroy them.

It’s a quick and furious game with loads of nostalgia and good artwork to boot! Great for a social night or a game that you can play with anyone – very unique in my games collection

Synopsis
Mysterium is a cooperative game, similar to Dixit, where one player gives the others clues to help solve a murder.

Cooperative games have become somewhat of a group favourite, with our inclination to not want to think too hard or hurt each other.

Mysterium has a great feature which combats the cooperative game curse (quarterbacking). By putting one player as the mute who gives the clues out you eliminate unwanted domination of the game. Also the nature of the game is person, it’s what the clue means to you, there is no right or wrong which stop players from telling you what to do (in any respect the other players can bid if they think you are right or wrong anyway).

The theme and artwork are great in this one and really brings the setting alive!

Gebirgsjagers - Chain of Command

Hi All I have been a long time table-top gaming enthusiast but have never really collected until recently. Something that I have never done due to time, talent and direction is painted. I suppose for me the collecting went hand in hand with the painting and as I could not paint, I did not collect and therefore I did not game. Well last year I decided to try my hand at painting. While I continue to learn a lot and my efforts are not the best I am a lot more confident that if I try I may be able to get a 'table-top' standard I am happy with. Anyway last year I began to paint some German Gebirgsjagers, however I noticed that there is no list in Chain of Command for them yet. They are quite similar to regular German infantry so with a bit of research and CoCulator help I settled on the below - Comments appreciated. Germany Heer Gebirgsjager Rifle Platoon (Pre 1942) Introduction The German Gebirgsjager (mountain infantry) of World War Two found its origins in...

Operation Mercury #1 - Campaign Introduction and Structure (Chain of Command)

Hi All, As stated in my last post I am hoping to play a Chain of Command campaign with my friend. Please see below for the campaign structure: 1.0 Overview This campaign will be played using the Chain of Command Rules produced by Too Fat Lardies. 1.1 Setting The campaign is set between 20 May 1941 and 1 June 1941. The campaign starts with the German airborne landings and concludes with the allied withdrawal to Egypt. The campaign abstracts the western part of the Battle of Crete and focuses on engagements between German and Greek forces. Map of German landings during Operation Mercury (image courtesy of Wikipedia) 1.2 Objective The Greeks win the campaign if one of the following conditions is met: Defeating the Germans twice in a row in Battle I - Decisive Victory If the Germans have not defeated the Greeks in Battle V in a total of 9 games - Allied Tactical Victory The Germans win the campaign if one of the following conditions is met: Defeat the ...

Chain of Command - Table Top Game

Hi All, Chain of Command , produced by Too Fat Lardies is one of the many World War Two table top games currently on the market. While it does not have the following of Flames of War or Bolt Action, it is still a very good game. Chain of Command Rule Book (image courtesy of Too Fat Lardies) At this stage, Chain of Command only covers the main combatants of the European Theatre but there have been some efforts to branch out to the more esoteric with army lists produced for Japanese, Italians and Belgians. Chain of Command varies a little from some of the more commercial games on the market in a few ways. Firstly it is partially without a points system. The core platoons are devised by actual structural organisation and training of that nation for that time period. Balancing in the game is then taken care of by 'support points' in which the nation with the weaker base organisation can take a few extra things to even up the battle. In reality these support points even u...
